The Kawaii Monster Cafe is an icon of Harajuku fashion culture, blending the charmingly kawaii as well as the delightfully chaotic. It is always popular with tourists and fashionable teens. Even Kim Kardashian made a visit.
During the novel coronavirus pandemic, like so many other restaurants and cafes across the country, things were rather quiet for a while at the normally frenetic and psychedelic restaurant. Now that the state of emergency has been lifted in Tokyo, however, the Kawaii Monster Cafe has decided to reopen for business. Harajuku fashion culture’s icon is back and better than ever, and it all begins tomorrow, June 13th.
Of course, they are fully aware that vigilance is still required, so they are taking a two-pronged approach, launching a whole variety of takeout and delivery options for those who want to enjoy the Kawaii Monster Cafe experience at home, and providing an in-store experience with a new private room and robust safety measures in place.
Harajuku KAWAII Birthday Party Set
This new birthday set can be enjoyed both at home and in-store. There are 3 types of main dishes to choose from, such as “Manga Meat,” which, as the name suggests, is inspired by the caricatured depiction of a giant block of meat on the bone often seen in manga and anime.
There’s also a wide variety of menu items such as a rainbow-colored chopped jelly salad, sliders with colorful buns, a dessert pizza with apple and cheese, and all kinds of tasty hors d’oeuvres to satisfy a monster appetite.
Of course, you can’t have a birthday without a birthday cake, and Kawaii Monster Cafe never fails to please in that department. A customized version of the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE’s famous “Colorful Poison Cake” is sure to be the highlight of your party.
The Harajuku KAWAII Birthday Party Set feeds between 3 to 4 people and costs 12,000 JPY plus tax.
Harajuku KAWAII Home Party Set
You don’t have to wait for your birthday to have a party Kawaii Monster Cafe-style. Just order their “Harajuku KAWAII Home Party Set” for 10,000 JPY plus tax, which replaces the cake with colorful cupcakes. The set has a mixed main entree with beef, pork and chicken, served with a side of grilled vegetables, but you can replace it with Manga Meat or a whole rotisserie-style chicken for an additional 1,080 JPY. You can also order the party set in-store, but please note that the whole chicken and Manga Meat options will require 2 hours of cooking time, so you’ll want to reserve in advance.
Balloon Art at home
Have you visited the Kawaii Monster Cafe before or are you enticed by the images and videos you see on their website? You don’t have to order a whole set to sample the mood. Kawaii Monster Cafe lets you add a bit of their magic to any home party you’re organizing or even just a family get-together, with a balloon art party set, which even comes with a video tutorial from a Monster Girl on how to make balloon art.
Full-day private room use for kids’ birthday parties
Kawaii Monster Cafe has a new amazing private room for special occasions called the Pink Cat Room, and it’s the perfect setting for kids who love cats and the color pink and/or all things kawaii. In addition to the anti-virus measures (see below) they’re already taking, you’ll have exclusive use of the room for the whole day, so you know that no other guests used it from the time the staff disinfected the room to the time you enter.
Anti-virus safety measures
The Kawaii Monster Cafe has installed an AI-powered temperature scanning device at the entrance to screen incoming guests, and all staff will wear masks. Of course, the masks are originals and perfectly match the cafe’s aesthetic.
In addition, they’re implementing the following measures:
Tables and seats are placed 2 meters apart (social distance)
Alcohol sanitizer dispensers set up on premises
Thorough cleaning of facilities and equipment with alcohol disinfectant, etc.
All staff have their body temperature scanned, are required to regularly wash their hands and gargle, and are carefully monitored for any changes in condition.
Staff are required to regulalry report on their health status and that of their family members.
