A Japanese international advertising agency Dentsu headquartered in Tokyo announced the results of its annual Japan Brand Survey. It asks for opinions from people around the globe about the country.
The study included 3,600 men/women from 17 countries. According to the international community, their responses were used for a compilation of a list, i.e., 10 things japan is one step ahead of any other country.
Dentsu interviewed people in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, the U.S., Brazil, the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and Russia. Participants were aged between 20 and 59 years old with middle- or upper-class incomes.
About 80% of the respondents said they either had plans or a desire to travel to Japan. This is a more than seven percent increase over last year’s survey. The most popular answer to “What is interesting about Japan?” was first, “Japan’s” cuisine. Secondly, they replied. It has innumerable travel destinations, both urban and rural. Thirdly, they prioritize Japanese Fashion.
Dentsu is an advertising company, but its primary concern is the perception of Japanese goods. Researchers asked participants to rate Japan’s products and services. The results were published below.
1. Audio/Video Electronics
Japan has lost somewhat of its grip on this market segment as it used to be. Although, as manufacturers, Japan offers cheaper alternatives and better quality products, Japan can still make the most high-performing consumer electronics available.
We are always interested to hear what other people think about our country. We are already anticipating next year’s survey. We hope that Japan will be able to show us the best things.
2. Anime/Manga
Anime and manga are Japanese terms that refer to comics and cartoons, but they don’t necessarily refer to the country of origin. However, in Japan, anime and manga are used interchangeably with comics and cartoons. Many people think that Japan produces the best manga and anime.
Some fans also want completely different animation from Japan and non-Japanese. The question of whether Japan produces “better cartoons” is difficult to answer. It’s like asking, “Which one is superior? A bicycle or an ocean freighter?” Both have the unequal priority that sets them apart. All that said, the Japanese anime industry has a lot to offer if you’re looking for robots fighting, giant-eyed characters falling in love, or both combinations.
3. Robotics
Japan is the leader in robotics, with its highly competitive research, development, and applied technologies. Robotics is making further progress so Japan can create new monozukuri(production) values and services. Japan also has the potential to be a platform for creating robots that will transform society.
4. Cars/Motorcycles
Japan may not match Germany’s luxury segment cachet, and it is facing increasing pressure in the economy class by American and Korean producers. Japanese marques remain the top choice for those looking for reliable transportation, an eco-friendly hybrid or electric vehicle, or a lightweight rear-wheel-drive sports car.
5. Precision Engineering
During the past three decades, Japanese industry has been associated with mass production. Precision engineering is gaining popularity. This article provides a historical perspective, draws analogies with traditional production technology and philosophy, and shows precision engineering’s new interest.
6. 3D Technology
Japan is Asia’s leader in technological innovation and research. However, Japan is beginning to notice a rapid growth in its 3D printing sector as there is a significant increase in demand for 3D printing technology.
Japan’s Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing Equipment sales total was 30.8 billion Japanese yen (or about $291.1 million) in 2017. IDC Japan, an IT research company, projected that the market would experience steady growth over five years, with an average growth rate of 9.1% through 2022.
7. Food
There is no dispute that Sushi was the dish most respondents reported eating, wanting to try, or just simply knowing about it; Japanese food has a wealth of delicious dishes, ranging from subtle delicacies like tofu and lotus root to heartier fare such as ramen and the cabbage-and-pork-filled crepes called okonomiyaki.
8. Environmental Engineering
The job of an environmental engineer is a specialist engineering field that combines broad scientific topics such as biology, ecology, and mathematics to develop solutions that protect and enhance the health of living organisms. And Japanese universities provide a pleasing environment to study this education. There are significant universities that are offering Masters and Graduation levels of environmental engineering for global students.
9. Transportation Infrastructure
It is come to know that the list was created from people’s responses outside Japan and not from within it. There are many valid complaints from residents about the country’s narrow roads and expensive expressways. It is also complicated to find parking. Travelers and anyone using Japan’s public transport system will find many things to be grateful for. It isn’t easy to imagine the subway or train network being more efficient or punctual.
10. Video Games
It is a sign that Japan’s videogame makers, who dominated the modern gaming industry for many years, have barely managed to break the top 10. Even though overseas companies are making great strides in social gaming and smartphone technology, some fans still prefer a Japanese-made game.
