About two or three years ago, SEIZAN Gallery New York hosted their inaugural exhibition titled NIHONGA: Contemporary Art of Japan. This group exhibition consisted of the works of seven Japanese artists who rejuvenated the traditional Japanese art style with a contemporary twist. Among these, Takashi Kanazawa’s pieces caught the eyes of many viewers.
Takashi Kanazawa paints images of animals and birds such as tigers, eagles, cranes, etc. He paints them usually in a dark environment, in such a manner as if the moon is lighting them from the back. Another exciting thing about his artwork is that he uses a canvas of “washi paper”. It’s a material produced locally with the help of a local fiber and is a deviation from the traditional style.
His paints with metallic pigments with delicate brushwork to display the vibrancy of the paintings. He uses metallic pigments like silver and tin to revitalize the subject in his paintings. You can check out more of his works on his profile on SEIZAN Gallery website.
He was also selected for 4 other group exhibitions on 2018 and has had two single exhibitions
