Yoko Kanto, the original composer for Cowboy Bepop, is not the only one returning to live-action Cowboy Bebop. The original voice cast has come through to work on the upcoming Netflix’s live-action show’s Japanese language track.
It’s not one of the original Japanese cast, but the entirety Japanese voice cast. After 20 years since the 2001 theatrical film Cowboy Bebop, the cast finally reunited after the original anime TV show ended in 1998.
Netflix Japan has brought the following VA’s to dub the movie in Japanese:
Koichi Yodera as “Spike”
Taiten Kusunoki as “Jet Black”
Megumi Hayashibara as “Faye Valentine”
Romi Park as “Shin” and
Hikaru Midorikawa “Lin.”
Although live adaptations of anime don’t have a good reputation, it’ll help hype up the show with the announcement of original VA’s. It’s a spectacle that Netflix brought the entire gang back together.
Director Shinichiro Watanabe’s 26 episodes of space neo-noir will finally be in a live-action movie. The cast will feature John Cho, who plays Spike Spiegel, Daniella Pineda plays Faye Valentine, and Mustafa Shakir plays Jet Black.
Will the Cowboy Bebop live-action be as good? Next month will be the test. However, Netflix’s live-action anime adaptations have had a mixed record. Death Notice, for example, was not received. We hope that the lessons learned will lead to better live-action adaptations.
