Pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the mental and physical wellbeing of people from all over the world.
To address this problem, Yoshihide Suga, Japan’s Prime Minister, has designated Tetsushi Sakamoto, regional revitalization minister, to take on a second part-time role back in February.
Sakamoto will serve as the Minister of Loneliness, which addresses loneliness and isolation. The problems from these reasons has become more common in this pandemic.
According to reports, this appointment was made after a report that showed an increase in suicide cases in Japan over the past year, and especially among young women. Research suggests that women are more likely to work in the service and retail sectors than men, which has led to them losing their jobs during the epidemic.
This surge occurred in the second half, with October recording the highest number of suicides (2,153) over five years. When compared to October 2019, the number of suicide by women rose 82.6 percent, reported CGTN.
