TOYOKAWA, Aichi — Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Central) on Oct 1 unveiled a testing car of the new N700S series bullet train that is set to be introduced in fiscal 2020.
The new bullet train, unveiled at the Nippon Sharyo Toyokawa Plant in Toyokawa, Aichi Prefecture, will be the first bullet train in Japan to use LED lights for its front lights.
The front and rear cars of the bullet train will be streamlined with a thicker design to make for a quieter and smoother ride. The train is expected to be completed in March 2018, after which tests will begin.
JR Central focused on making the new bullet train lighter than its predecessor, the N700 series, with shelves integrated into side panels.
The vents of air conditioners and heaters have also been widened to boost efficiency, and it will consume 7 percent less power than the N700A series Shinkansen.
