Massive storm lights up Tokyo with thousands of lightning strikes

Tokyo’s night sky was lit up with a natural “light show” after the city was hit with one of the strongest thunderstorms in recent years.


Locals reportedly did not know what to expect after an upcoming thunderstorm was announced the day before as Japan has been subjected to extreme weather phenomenon in the past decade.
If you’ve been reading the news recently, you’ll know that Japan is no stranger to extreme and sudden changes dealt out by Mother Nature. However, while residents are often bracing themselves against earthquakes and typhoons, one thing that’s surprisingly less frequent in Japan are big, fearsome thunderstorms.

So when a large stormfront rolled in towards the nation’s capital last night, people couldn’t be entirely sure of what to expect, but many had their cameras at the ready to record the evening’s events. It turned out to be one of the biggest electrical storms to hit Tokyo in years, and residents recorded some eyebrow-raising scenes around the city.

HERE ARE SOME GLIMSE  BY EYE WITNESS 

As the thunderstorm also came with heavy downpour, local authorities warned citizens to be vigilant due to the possibility of flooding. While the water level at the Meguro River rose during the thunderstorm, it decreased after the rain passed.

Thankfully, aside from some slight transportation delays and a temporary power interruption in approximately 7,700 homes, the thunderstorm did not cause much harm in Tokyo.Locals reportedly did not know what to expect after an upcoming thunderstorm was announced the day before as Japan has been subjected to extreme weather phenomenon in the past decade.
