Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused a lot of grief, stress, and uncertainty, it has also made life more convenient. Soon, you may be able to purchase your 100-yen shop products at your Japanese 7-Eleven without having to travel to Daiso.
Social distancing and “stay home” recommendations have caused a significant decline in the commercial sphere for individual Daiso stores, Japan’s largest and most well-known 100-yen retail chain. Customers who usually shop at Daiso for daily goods such as disposable kitchen items are less likely to travel to Daiso now. Customers are looking for a more accessible and affordable way to purchase these items.
7-11 and Daiso have joined forces to bring Daiso products onto 7-11 shelves. 200 7-Elevens from Kanagawa, Hokkaido, have been selling Daiso products in their stores since 2021. The results were promising. The 7-Elevens that stock Daiso products saw an increase in sales of everyday items by 20% compared to 2020.
After these successful trials, Daiso & 7-Eleven have expanded their partnership to 10,000 stores. This means that about half of 7-Eleven stores will stock Daiso products and focus on daily convenience items such as paper towels and disinfectant wipes. 7-Elevens will begin the rollout in eastern Japan. If sales are reasonable, it will expand gradually to western Japan. Daiso products should appear in more than 7 Elevens starting this month. However, exact dates are not known.
Accessing their products in a much easier way could prove to be a massive game-changer for those who love Daiso products.
