A 14-year-old senior high student died after being stabbed by a fellow Jushiyama junior high school student in Yatomi, Aichi Prefecture, in the center of Japan. According to local police, an investigation was in progress to determine whether the two were involved in a dispute.
The police detained the alleged attacker, who was also 14. He confessed to attacking his classmate, Yuzuki Ito, and the police seized the 20-centimeter kitchen knife used during the assault.
The suspect was accused of stabbing Ito on the stomach about 8.30 a.m. with the intention of killing him, police claimed. Teachers rushed the victim to the hospital, where the cause of death was a hemorrhagic shock was discovered at about 10:30 a.m.
The police were on the scene following the call of the teacher, who had reported a predicament involving two students. The teacher was quick to the scene upon hearing the screams and grabbed the boy who appeared to have fought Ito.
The attack took place in a hallway just outside of the classroom. The two students weren’t in the same class as third-year students and were a part of various clubs outside of school. They were, however, within the same classroom the second year, and they attended same elementary schools.
There were no injuries reported between teachers and students. The board has stated that they are in no way aware of the conflict with the boys. The committee will create an independent panel to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident.
In a press conference at the end of the day on Wednesday, Takumi Okuyama was the head of the board. He stated that the circumstances deeply hurt the board.
