5 Years of spy on a Public Ping-Pong by a Japanese Photographer
While living in Leipzig, Germany, Japanese photographer Hayahisa Tomiyasu would look out his dorm room window every day and watch the ping-pong table below.
Seasons passed and he began photographing what he saw. What does the life of a public ping-pong table look like? Probably a little different than you might expect.
From Tomiyasu’s series, the table seems to be used for everything except actually playing ping-pong.
Neighbours sit on the table, groom their dogs on it, and even host a picnic lunch on it. Winter months see if covered in snow while the warmth of spring makes it the perfect place to quietly sit and contemplate life. Ironically, none of his photos show people playing ping-pong on the table.
Tomiyasu began documenting the table back in 2011 and calls the series TTP. His final image is from 2016.
