The former foreign minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, recently won the election to lead the government’s Liberal Democratic Party, replacing Yoshihide Suga as Japan’s next Prime Minister.
Kishida recently mentioned that he’s a mega Demon Slayer fan and has promised to focus on promoting anime and manga artists.
Kishida, who usually interacts on Twitter through his hashtag #kishidaBOX, recently came out as an anime fan.
When asked if he had watched the famous The Demon Slayer film, Kishida stated that he had not seen the movie. However, he had binged through the entire manga, and that his most beloved character is Akaza, one of the upper-ranked demons (ranked 3rd) who plays the main antagonist in the Mugen Train movie.
The Japanese anime and manga industry is quite infamous for paying low salaries to hardworking artists and animators. This is quite a debated topic as of recently. Although Netflix and prominent media outlets have started investing in the anime industry, there is still ample room for improvement. In this aspect, as per the CBR, Future PM also stated that he would advocate for increasing the salaries of those involved in animation, manga, and movies.
But, many people argue that Kishida is an ultranationalist of the far right. Also, he has a history of not making big promises, and the Japanese say that he threw this statement simply to please Manga and anime fans.
Demon Slayer — Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Film: Mugen Train became the highest-rated animated film ever made in the U.S with a gross of $503 million at the box office worldwide.
Demon Slayer season 2, which will feature the Entertainment District arc of Gotouge’s manga original, will air on the 5th of December.
