Photographer Hiroki Ishikura set out to capture the phenomenon in remote and rural areas. He follows a young girl as she explores the glowing fields.

Thousands of blinking bugs glimmer around here, making the scenes look like something from a fairytale adventure.

These photos were taken in the Shimane Prefecture, an area popular for fireflies observing and catching. Yes, there really is a specific area in Japan that’s become famous for the past-time.

But after seeing these photos, we completely understand why s tourists come here in the Summer. The firefly population combined with the landscape is breathtaking.
