World’s Oldest Person, Kane Tanaka From Japan Dies At 119

According to the local government on Monday, the world’s most oldest person hailing from the southwest Japanese city Fukuoka passed away at the age of 119 on Apr. 19th.

Kane Tanaka was born on Jan. 2nd, 1903, when Wilbur and Orville Wright completed the first flight of powered aircraft one year before the outbreak of the Russo-Japanese War.



Her life was a mix of Japanese imperial periods — Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Rewa.

She was honored as the oldest person by Guinness World Records as the world’s most aged individual in March 2019 with a 116-year old age. Additionally, she was the oldest person recorded in Japan at the age of 117, 261 days old in September 2020.

Tanaka is one of the seven siblings who got married at the age of 19 years old. She aided her family through a noodle store while her husband Hideo and their son, the eldest, took part during the Second Sino-Japanese War that started in 1937. The couple also operated an establishment selling rice cakes after the war.

After Tanaka’s passing, the world’s oldest individual will be Lucile Randon, a French woman aged 118, 73 days old, as per the Gerontology Research Group, which monitors supercentenarians worldwide.

The oldest person in Japan is Fusa Tatsumi, who is 115 years old. She is a woman who lives in Kashiwara, Osaka Prefecture, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare stated.
