Free Bullet Train Rides For Kids In Japan To Help Rejuvenate Tourism

Children can take a ride on bullet trains that travel through most of Japan’s largest cities at no cost as part of a plan to revive tourism in Japan affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The week-long campaign, which runs from Wednesday through Dec 19, will be centered around Nozomi super express services scheduled to stop at major stations like Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Shin-Osaka, and Hakata, Central Japan Railway Co and West Japan Railway Co said.

To be eligible to participate in the campaign, the passengers must reserve seats via the members-only online system, which will require the payment of adults and children simultaneously with a credit card. The child’s fares will be reimbursed within two weeks, according to the companies.

Children must be aged between six and 11 years of age and must be accompanied by an adult. Five children would be eligible for free tickets per adult passenger.

This will be the first time that the two major railway operators have undertaken this kind of campaign. March will be the 30th anniversary of the introduction of Nozomi services.

In the wake of a dramatic drop in coronavirus-related infections in Japan, the government hopes to increase the demand for domestic travel by reviving the “Go to travel” subsidy program during February. The program was halted in December of this year due to the spread of this virus.
