Tokyo Ranked Among The Top 10 Most Beautiful Cities In The World

As from the name of our website, it isn’t hard to deduce that we love Japan. Hence, it might sound like a biased opinion when we say this, but Tokyo is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities globally.

If you’re interested in knowing why we think so, a fellow Tokyo-based website listed 50 things that prove Tokyo is one of the best cities out in the world.

The recent results conducted this year by Time Out, i.e., the Time Out Index survey, can add to the fact that foreigners also think Tokyo is amazing. This survey ranks Tokyo as the 10th best out of 37 cities worldwide and the top city in Asia.

The ranking from the top go like these:
San Francisco, Amsterdam, Manchester, Copenhagen, New York, Montreal, Prague, Tel Aviv, Porto, and Tokyo

Why Should You Trust the Survey?

Time Out surveyed 27,000 people living in cities around the globe about their experiences with city life. They enquired everything about the food, drink, and art and culture scene in their respective cities. There were questions about sustainability, social energy, and optimism about their future city.

In total, 37 cities’ data were analyzed to find the best place to live in 2021. We gained unique insight into the city’s strengths and weaknesses and what we can learn from one another.

Reasons for Tokyo ranking so high?

Surprisingly, 82 percent of respondents stated that Tokyo is a great city to ‘discover and enjoy new things. According to this survey, Tokyo ranks third in the world in terms of learning new things, just behind New York and London.

Our super-efficient public transport system may have something to do with it. Seventy-three percent of those surveyed thought Tokyo was a great place to travel around the city without a car. Asia topped the list for convenience when compared to other cities around the globe. Singapore was the winner, followed by Hong Kong and Tokyo.

There are still some things Tokyo can improve on

However, it wasn’t all positive news. Only 31% of respondents praised Tokyo for its community spirit, and only 9 percent said that Tokyo is an excellent place to be sustainable.

Although we are not denying that Tokyo has made significant progress in reducing carbon emissions and plastic waste, we agree that Tokyo is still a bit behind other major cities worldwide. Many initiatives are popping up to encourage people to adopt eco-conscious behaviors, like Muji and MyMizu free water dispensers.

Tokyo is committed to sustainability in its city planning and aims to draw 30 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
